Celebrate Virginia Craft Beer Month on the LoCo Ale Trail

August is Virginia Craft Beer Month and Loudoun is at the forefront of the Virginia beer industry and where visitors get a distinct local taste at 22 Loudoun County breweries creating more than 200 unique brews at any given time. Home to the LoCo Ale Trail, Loudoun blends rural farm breweries with industrial-style tasting rooms. Here are four ways you can experience the LoCo Ale Trail and celebrate Virginia Craft Beer Month while staying at Lansdowne Resort and Spa.

Farm Breweries

The agricultural side of beer production is an integral part of Loudoun’s beer story and many breweries are growing hops and other products on site to create unique brews. At Dirt Farm Brewery, take in breathtaking views of the adjacent farm where they grow cherries, peaches and other produce for their beers or wander the hops farm at Vanish Farmwoods Brewery, which is also home to the Mid-Atlantic’s first commercial hops processing facility. At Quattro Goomba’s Brewery, participate in the yeast series where you sample three beers featuring the same wort but different yeast strains. See if you can taste the difference in the Pale Ale series this August.

Brews and Bites

Many breweries are offering culinary creations to enjoy along with your craft beer. Crooked Run Brewing teamed up with Senior Ramon Taqueria at its new Sterling location to offer a full menu of tostadas and tacos. At Belly Love Brewing, try the beef brisket flatbread or German pretzel with Pale Ale Cheese dip. BBQ lovers can check out Jack’s Run Brewing, for wings, BBQ, fries and slaw. Or, visit Loudoun’s oldest brewery Lost Rhino Brewing Company for its famous beer queso nachos, sandwiches and more.

From Plane to Pint

Flying in for your stay at Lansdowne? Stop at one of several breweries just minutes from Dulles International Airport.  At Old Ox Brewery, play a game of cornhole in their industrial-style tasting room or sample some sours after a round of darts at Ocelot Brewing Company. To experience a variety of beers from different brands, try Beltway Brewing Company. This contract brewer features the unique beers it's brewing for others in its tasting room before shipping them out across the country.

History and Hops

Drive just minutes from the resort and you will be in historic Leesburg where breweries have quickly been emerging in historic buildings around town. If you like German style beers, visit Black Hoof Brewing Company. Or try Loudoun Brewing Company, a family owned nano brewery, which is constantly changing its lineup of beers to try. Want someone to guide you? Try the new Leesburg Brew Crawl, which takes you to three artisan Loudoun County breweries.
