The Good Life with Jake Hatch

Meet Jake Hatch, National Sales Manager and one of our newest additions to the Sales Team at Lansdowne Resort and Spa. We must say, Jake lives the good life for sure, from wanting to go to a place where no taxes are collected, to learning who inspires him to think outside the box, take risks and leave this planet if needed!

Get to know Jake a little bit more with some fun questions!

  1. What are three items you would bring to a desert island?
Water purifier, Cucumber seeds and a Wilson volleyball. Clean water, cucumber is easy to grow/eat, enhances the water experience and I don’t think Tom Hanks would have survived Cast Away without his friend Wilson.
  2. If you could go anywhere in the world where would that be?
Cayman Islands. Beautiful beaches and no taxes.
  3. What three people would you invite to a dinner party?
    Bill Gates
, to talk about building billions from his garage, then what it’s like to have the opportunity to change the world with his foundation/company.
Alan Watts, one of the greatest students of the mind and philosophy of life. We don’t have enough of those “what are we really doing here” conversations.
Leo DiCaprio, he’ll have the after party covered. Incredible actor and overlooked environmentalist. He’s put in as much work studying global warming as he has his acting roles and he recently bought an island to build an eco-resort. Would love to talk about all and hit the town with him after.
  4. What’s your ideal weekend like?
Golf, Wine/Whiskey tastings and fire pit time with friends/family
  5. What’s your favorite kind of group to work with?
I love them all and just meeting needs in general but incentive groups are always the best. Minimal meetings, maximum fun and exposure to all the resort has to offer. When you leave a resort setting your mind, body and palate should be fully satisfied from an experience you can’t get anywhere else.
  6. What’s the secret to your success as a Senior Sales Manager?
Building relationships/trust, anticipatory decision making and genuinely wanting the best experience for everyone around me. That goes for clients and coworkers.
  7. What’s the biggest career risk you’ve ever taken?
Anything in particular that you learned from this? Leaving a job without having another lined up and switching industries. I’ve done both multiple times and learned that life has a funny way of falling into place as long as you hold a vision of where you want to go. And above all else, I love the hospitality industry.
  8. Do you have any insider hospitality tips for groups traveling to Virginia Wine Country?
I’m new, so still learning myself! There’s way too many to visit on one trip so I’d recommend staying at Lansdowne and ask us to bring a tasting of Virginia Wine Country to you!
  9. How do you celebrate a big victory at work?
By thanking everyone that helped it happen. So many moving parts and everyone’s role is just as important. Getting the guests here means nothing if they aren’t blown away by the experience when they leave.
  10. What advice do you have for your clients on the best deals?
Flexibility. The hotel world is very much a Tetris game of supply & demand. If you can be flexible with your dates, we can fit you into need times to create a win, win situation.
  11. Describe someone outside of your field who inspires you?
Elon Musk, Tesla/Space X/Boring CEO. The guy is fascinating, thinks outside the box, takes risks, passionate and determined to leave the world a better place. All while trying to colonize another planet just in case things go south here.
