The superb environment showcases the master touch of golf course designer Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Opened in the summer of 1991, the Jones Course encompasses the rolling terrain and an overall environmentally focused golf design. In 2003, two new holes were added on the back nine (No. 14 and No. 15) replacing the original 17th and 18th holes, which were designed into the current practice range.
Set along the banks of the Potomac River, with views of the Virginia countryside, this challenging 18-hole layout incorporates fields, woodlands, natural stone outcroppings and centuries-old rock walls. A classic experience awaits both the accomplished and novice golfer on the 7,057-yard, par-72 course.
The key to success on the Jones Course is the ability to accurately judge the effects of the elevation changes. For example, the par-3 13th hole features a 50-foot drop from tee to green, requiring a carry over a creek that runs across the front of the green, as well as a stone wall that dates back to the 1700s.
Jones provides mental challenges with risk-reward holes and a tee-to-green carry over water on the par-3 17th, as well as physical tests with a pair of classic, three-shot par-5s.
While friendly, the strategic layout will test the skills of both the accomplished and novice golfer, rewarding each with a memorable round every time.
