Lansdowne Resort Comes to the Rescue for a Wedding Party

There is nothing more special, sacred and memorable than a bride and groom's wedding day. Everything has to be perfect - the preparations, the weather, the ceremony and the reception - and nothing is left to chance. But for one Northern Virginia wedding party, Mother Nature had other ideas.

There is nothing more special, sacred and memorable than a bride and groom's wedding day. Everything has to be perfect - the preparations, the weather, the ceremony and the reception - and nothing is left to chance. But for one Northern Virginia wedding party, Mother Nature had other ideas.

On the evening of June 29th, a massive line of thunderstorms wrecked havoc on the Washington, DC area. The damage was particularly significant near Leesburg, Va. The following day dawned and it was a big wedding day for Karen Westcott and Nick Lazetta. The day had to be perfect, but a challenge lied ahead for them and all of their friends who traveled to the Leesburg area to witness the couple's big day.

The wedding was indeed perfect, a glorious ceremony as Karen and Nick exchanged vows, but little did they know, their reception planned at a nearby vineyard was experiencing some problems. The previous night's storms left a local caterer without power for the entire evening and could not prepare the food for the reception. The wedding reception appeared doomed!

Then, the phone rang at Lansdowne Resort. Could the resort pull off a magical wedding reception - and with only nine hours of notice? The resort's director of food and beverage, Michael van Emmenes, said "yes, we can!"

Immediately, the clubhouse team from The Golf Club at Lansdowne; plus, the culinary and conference services staffs raced into action to transform the ballroom into a beautiful wedding reception for the newlyweds. The ballroom and the adjacent Crooked Billet restaurant were reorganized, a buffet was prepared and set up, center pieces for the table were arranged, and even a dance floor was installed - all done seamlessly, and in time for the wedding reception later that afternoon.

"This truly shows what teamwork is all about," said van Emmenes. "To know our team saved the day for a bride and groom on a day they will remember forever, it was something we were very pleased to accomplish."
